ATTO Technology's iSCSI Product Line Provides Widest Depth and Breadth of Mac OS X iSCSI Solutions

New Product Releases Reinforce ATTO's Position as the Premier Provider of OS X iSCSI Solutions

Sep 07, 2007

Amherst, NY (September 4, 2007) — ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, announced today that it is continuing its iSCSI development efforts for Mac OS X environments by providing new releases for its Xtend SAN iSCSI Initiator for Mac OS X and iPBridge™ product lines.

ATTO Xtend SAN Software provides the functionality necessary for Mac OS X users to utilize iSCSI in their storage environments. iSCSI allows users to take advantage of existing Ethernet expertise and equipment and reap the benefits of a Storage Area Network (SAN), while avoiding the cost and complexity associated with Fibre Channel. Small businesses and workgroups can take full advantage of a networked-storage environment even with limited IT budgets and resources.

ATTO's iPBridge product line provides a simple, time-saving and cost-effective solution for adding iSCSI connectivity to both SCSI and Fibre Channel storage, such as existing Apple XServe RAID storage.  As OS-independent devices, iPBridges are fully compatible with Mac OS X. Additionally, iPBridges offer features that provide for the enhanced management and configuration of storage devices behind the bridge, simplifying the implementation of an iSCSI network for OS X users.

The simplicity of iSCSI makes it the ideal storage networking protocol for Mac OS X users who are accustomed to the legendary ease-of-use of Mac OS X, as even non-technical users can setup and manage a server with just a few mouse clicks. ATTO's Xtend SAN and iPBridge products further lessen the effort associated with the implementation of an iSCSI SAN by providing features designed with ease-of-use in mind. These features include the new, innovative ‘one-click’ setup interface for iPBridges which allows users to initially configure any storage connected to the iPBridge in a manner which will maximize their application needs, including both IT and digital video/audio environments. The new release of Xtend SAN provides an updated GUI which reflects the elegance and simplicity Mac OS X users have come to expect.

The combination of ATTO's Xtend SAN iSCSI initiator for OS X and iSCSI storage interface bridges allows users to create a heterogeneous SAN that combines Apple storage and servers with other, non-Apple storage. Additionally, they act as a key enabler for applications such as remote backup/disaster recovery and collaborative workflows.

Utilizing Xtend SAN and iPBridges allows users to utilize the Internet to transport data across long distances. This ensures OS X users can implement remote backup solutions which aid in compliance with regulatory measures with regards to sensitive data, such as HIPPA and Sarbanes-Oxley, without introducing the risks associated with transporting physical storage media.

ATTO's iSCSI solutions for Apple also enable collaborative workflows with SCSI storage. ATTO iPBridges provide iSCSI connectivity for SCSI storage, making storage that was previously direct-attached into network-addressable storage. Mac OS X workstations, including laptops, running Xtend SAN can then collaborate on projects utilizing data on those pieces of storage, which provides for more efficient workflows.

"ATTO has been designing products for the Macintosh market for over 10 years,” states Tom Kolniak, Director of Products for ATTO Technology, Inc. “ATTO's iSCSI products have always supported OS X, and with the introduction of version 3.0 of Xtend SAN, ATTO will retain its position as the premier provider of iSCSI solutions for Apple. ATTO is proud to continue its efforts in supporting Apple's advancements in the iSCSI market.”
