ATTO Technology Announces Support for Windows® 8

Remains industry's only provider offering enterprise class storage connectivity for both servers and workstations

Oct 30, 2012

Amherst, NY (October 30, 2012) — With the recent unveiling of Windows® 8, ATTO Technology, Inc. today announced it offers full support for its line of network and storage connectivity products, including Celerity Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), ExpressSAS® SAS/SATA HBAs and RAID Adapters and FastFrame™ Network Interface Cards (NICs) and Converged Network Adapters (CNAs). As the only connectivity provider that allows both servers and workstations access to enterprise class storage, ATTO also offers a full suite of software-based productivity and performance-enhancing solutions supporting Windows. "ATTO has worked closely with Microsoft® for over 15 years to give high-performance computing users access to the Windows operating system," said Wayne Arvidson, vice president of marketing at ATTO. "We provide accessibility for corporate work group, departmental and enterprise level infrastructures, as well as those found in Big Data environments such as media and entertainment, oil and gas, CAD/CAE and medical imaging." Key features of Windows 8 include a fresh Metro user interface, added support for the ARM processor and Internet Explorer 10. Windows 8 also has significant changes to Hyper-V, including improved live migration, better support for Fibre Channel and more feature-rich virtual networking. In addition, the new server OS has improved management capabilities.

Included in ATTO's broad portfolio of Windows® 8-qualified solutions are:

  • Celerity 16 and 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs incorporate industry-standard components into a unique architecture to deliver a robust and scalable connectivity solution. With features including Advanced Data Streaming (ADS™), a technology, that manages latency by providing controlled data acceleration for smooth transfers resulting in consistent performance in high-bandwidth applications and uninterrupted workflows, Celerity HBAs provide faster and more efficient data transfers. Additionally, MultiPath Director™ provides the unique ability to directly connect workstations, as well as servers to enterprise class storage in a heterogeneous environment.
  • ExpressSAS® 6Gb/s SAS/SATA and RAID Adapters provide high performance data protection to direct attached SAS and SATA JBOD storage. With a wide variety of port configurations and RAID levels, these adapters offer flexibility for every range of application. Both adapter families incorporate ADS™, while ExpressSAS® RAID cards come standard with DriveAssure™, a technology which monitors the response time of slow drives and searches for and repairs bad sectors extending the life of drives by allowing them to run longer, faster and smoother while preventing premature drive failures. In the event of a drive failure, it ensures 100% productivity by completing drive rebuilds up to 50% faster than the competition. In addition, RAID card users can take advantage of CacheAssure™, a technology that safeguards data in the cache in the event of a power loss via battery-less supercapacitor technology. Data is protected for up to 10 years in the event of a system disruption, and is automatically written to disk when the storage system indicates it is operational. It also eliminates the need to monitor and replace batteries, lowering system administration costs.
  • ATTO FastFrame NICs deliver high-performance I/O connectivity and lossless Ethernet support for improved iSCSI block storage access. Single, dual- and quad-port SFP+ configurations make ATTO FastFrame a complete portfolio for flexible design, ideal for low-latency applications. ATTO CNAs unite ATTO's field-tested Fibre Channel stack with Intel Ethernet technology for ubiquitous usability. FC-BB-6 support plus ATTO Target Mode (available for select OEMs) provides FCoE without expensive converged switches. They are also available in single, dual- and quad-port form factors.
  • ATTO offers a complete line of software to compliment infrastructures using the Windows® 8 operating system, including the ATTO ConfigTool™, ATTO Disk Benchmark Tool, CLI Tools, Express Power Center and ExpressNav.
"We expect to add certification for our Thunderbolt™ technology enabled Desklink™ devices in the coming weeks, which is key as Windows 8 expands the types of devices that need to connect into high-performance infrastructures." added Arvidson. "For 25 years, ATTO has delivered industry-leading solutions that power high-performance networks and storage, and we're proud to now include Windows 8 users."
