FastStream™ Brings your SAS Connected Tape Drives to the SAN

If you are like most companies, you have a growing storage need as well as the need to backup this data on your network. The ATTO FastStream Storage Controller is a high performance shared RAID Controller which has industry leading performance for disk based RAID Groups while also providing simultaneous access to tape drives. Typically, tape drives are connected to a server which is dedicated to backup the network either through the SAN or a much slower LAN connection while RAID Storage is locally connected to each computer or centrally located on a separate RAID Array. With FastStream you can connect both SAS/SATA JBODs and SAS connected tape drives to access all of your storage over a Fibre Channel SAN from a single controller. By moving your tape devices to the SAN, you can reduce overhead on your backup server and improve backup performance all while RAID Groups and tapes exist side-by-side without the need for extra hardware like a RAID Array, Bridge or Storage Router. ATTO has joined the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI). The SSSI is designed to leverage the resources of the membership base to further the technology, standards development, interoperability, and market adoption of solid state disk based storage.

ATTO, along with fellow storage industry leaders, will use the SNIA platform to enable and promote the benefit of solid state storage in commercial environments.
