ATTO Launches the ExpressSAS Host Adapter
Complementing the recent launch of the ExpressSAS RAID adapters this past spring, ATTO is expanding the ExpressSAS family to include two SAS host adapter products which will begin shipping next week. The new ATTO ExpressSAS H308 and H380 models deliver 3-Gb SAS performance and feature the Intel® IOC340 processor. Offering 8 internal or 8 external ports respectively, these x8 PCIe adapters provide the flexibility to connect up to a total of 256 SAS (Serial Attached SCSI), SATA I or SATA II (Serial ATA) end devices through expanders and can deliver 300MB/sec. per port; enough to support multiple layers of complex, uncompressed real-time effects, and high-definition video editing while also addressing the high I/O requirements for transactional database applications, email servers and larger server farms. This cost-effective, direct-attached solution is ideal for high performance server environments and digital-video applications using SAS or SATA JBOD enclosures, RAID arrays, or tape backup systems. Offering support for Windows, Linux and Mac® OS X environments, the multi-faceted ExpressSAS host adapter is the perfect fit for almost any environment.

ATTO Launches the FastStream™ SC 7000 Series Fibre Channel-to-SAS/SATA Storage Controller
The ATTO FastStream SC family has a new addition: the 7000 series. With performance of up to 1200 MB/sec with RAID 5 parity protection, the FastStream 7000 series appliances work with Fibre Channel, SAS and SATA storage. FastStream SC appliances are scalable RAID controllers that deliver high-performance access to data and data protection for applications in DVA and IT infrastructures including 4K and 2K digital film production, high definition video post, digital prepress, disk-to-disk backup, audio production, email compliance, data warehousing and data mining environments. The FastStream SC 7500 was designed as both a 1U external appliance which integrates with SAS or SATA storage, and as an embeddable microATX-based RAID controller that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can integrate into SAS/SATA array enclosures. The FastStream SC 7700 was designed as a 1U external appliance which provides high-speed access, data protection and increased performance for Fibre Channel storage. With an intuitive point-and-click interface, FastStream features the ExpressNAV™ storage manager which allows for remote configuration, management and diagnostics. Featuring a one-button setup wizard that dramatically simplifies installation and configuration for video, audio, database and IT environments, the FastStream SC 7000 series appliances are JBOD, DVRAID™ and RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 10, 40 and 50 configurable.

ATTO Tech Talk: The Value of Implementing RAID in Video Environments
In fast-paced video production environments, redundant RAID has become a requirement. With the rate of production increasing, there is little margin for downtime. ATTO advances in RAID controller and drive technology can provide ample performance to meet the most demanding needs.
Implementing RAID dramatically affects performance. It allows the use of several disk drives to aggregate performance and it reduces the risk of a drive failure causing complete data loss. Historically, video editors used RAID 0 (striping) as it provided the best performance available; however, if a single drive fails, all data is lost. A better solution, ATTO’s DVRAID™ Technology, provides parity protection and fault tolerance while also providing many of the performance enhancement characteristics of RAID 0. In addition, it requires only one parity drive for data protection, making it a cost-effective solution for editors and broadcasters.
ATTO Technology has a wide range of products that provide RAID protection for video environments. Whether the requirements call for an external solution (i.e., FastStream™ SC RAID controller appliance), or an internal solution (i.e., ExpressSAS RAID adapter), ATTO can fulfill the need to implement cost-effective, parity RAID-protected solutions.

ATTO’s FAQ's: Initiator
Q: What is an initiator
A: An initiator is a system component that originates an input/output (I/O) command over and I/O bus or network
Q: Does ATTO have an initiator?
A: Yes. ATTO's Xtend SAN iSCSI initiator enables Mac® OS X servers and laptops to utilize the iSCSI protocol.
Q: What distinguishes ATTO's iSCSI initiator from the competition?
A: ATTO was the first company in the world to develop a Mac® OS X based initiator over four years ago. Xtend SAN is a feature-rich product. By installing it on an OS X workstation, users can benefit from key iSCSI applications such as collaborative digital video/audio workflows, laptop connectivity to SANs, and remote backups. ATTO’s newly-announced Version 3.01 offers support for CHAP, iSNS and login redirect.
